The Woman Behind the Paper

Hi, I'm Jess and am the creator, designer, twisted idea developer, you name it, of Wild Card Creations.

Since I was a kid, my happy place has been at the kitchen table, with an excessive amount of school supplies, creating cards. Fast forward a few years (or 25), add a glass of wine, and a house full of adopted fur babies, and I'm still that girl.

Wild Card Creations came to fruition in 2015 when I needed a mental escape from my teaching job and the real world in general. It started with a sketchbook and snarky Valentines for my girlfriends, and took off from there. I quickly learned I would never be able to hand draw all of my cards and fulfill orders; tackling the tech world was a necessity. Those who know me, know that I am not tech savvy. So teaching myself how to transfer illustrations and lettering from paper to computer is perhaps my greatest life accomplishment (seriously).

After friend referrals and positive feedback, I opened an Etsy shop, and started selling my cards in galleries and stores in Louisville, Kentucky, my hometown. In May 2017, I went full tilt boogie and exhibited at the National Stationery Show in New York. And to my (very) pleasant surprise, I was nominated for the national "Rising Star" Louie Award as well as several "Best New Product" awards at the show. A few months later, I took a leap of faith and left the teaching world to become a full-time card hustler.

When I'm not creating, I enjoy spending time with my family, fur children, gal pals, and special man friend. I love weekend getaways to Chicago and Asheville, exercising, and being outside. On the flip side, I'm also a huge fan of being lazy and watching trashy TV with a glass (okay, bottle) of wine.

I hope Wild Card Creations provides honest, one-of-a-kind cards that are relatable and make you feel good. More than anything, I hope my cards put you in your happy place, just like they have for me.
